CIRHA has duplexes, rowhomes, and townhouses available for rent to qualified families. One, two, three and four bedroom units are available for familes with some one bedroom units designated for the elderly or disabled. The units are located in the Central Iowa Counties listed below. Click on a county or town below to be taken to their own web site for more information about each locality.

Boone County: in the cities of Boone and Madrid.
Dallas County: in the cities of Perry and Redfield.
Jasper County: in the cities of Colfax and Newton.
Marion County: in the city of Melcher-Dallas.

These units are available to income eligible families. (Income Table) The rent in these units is calculated based on 30% of the family’s adjusted gross income. Unit size is assigned based on family composition.

You may complete the online Preliminary Application (link below) to apply for the Owned Housing program. The length of the waiting list depends on the size of unit for which the family qualifies and vacancies in the area where the family wishes to live. Some units are currently available with little or no wait.

The family will receive a letter informing them when they have reached the top of the waiting list for the county they have requested.  They will then need to contact CIRHA’s office to set up an appointment for an enrollment interview.

At this meeting, the family will complete the required paperwork and provide information about family composition, income, assets & rental history.  The family will also need to provide copies of Social Security Cards and state-issued birth certificates for all family members.  A criminal background check will be done on all family members age 18 and older.

Families must have a combination of reasonably good rental history and/or credit history in order to qualify.  Once the family information is verified and the family is approved for the program, the Owned Housing Specialist will contact the family to set up a date to move into an available unit.  The family must have utilities in their name prior to move-in and pay a $200 security deposit.

Once on the program, tenants will be recertified at least annually. If the family has any changes in family composition or income, the family must contact their Housing Specialist within 10 days of the change. The family must comply with all terms of the lease at all times. In addition to an annual inspection, there will be periodic inspections of the rental unit of which the tenant will be notified in advance.
