The Violence Against Women Act of 2005 (VAWA) provides protections for persons who are victims of domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking. The Act covers all victims of domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking and is not gender specific.

Certain sections of the Act apply to landlords participating in the Section 8 Program and to residents applying for both the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program and the CIRHA Public Housing Program.
